My story

Josie Litchfield small business marketing

Hi! My name is Josie. I have been where you are– a passionate small business owner and also a longtime non-profit staffer. I’ve spent 20 years motivating donors to attend fundraising events, building sales funnels for real results, and obtaining ‘organic’ social media leads. The non-profit world has a lot to share with small businesses! When your ad budget is zero, you find amazing free tools, and you get creative. In 2018, I launched Kata Marketing to bring everything I learned about creative marketing to the rest of the small business community.

Kata Marketing for Small Business

When I managed my own small business, I tried to get the help of a marketing professional too. I remember cold-calling companies for help to build a business Facebook page, a website, a newsletter… a call-back would take weeks.  Eventually, when I did hear from a salesperson, they’d propose a plan that would cost us thousands– to get found in a market we didn’t even serve. Sound familiar?

So my training in marketing and sales came the old-fashioned way: I wanted to get stuff done, and so I learned how to do it myself.

I learned a sustainable plan is not just about landing that next big grant or building a website with a contact button. To grow your business, you must tell a cohesive story that compels other people to find you and get involved.  Most of us post our updates on Facebook, but posting on social media is not enough.

Facebook is not a sufficient marketing tool!

You need an arsenal of smart strategies, and you must stay on top of it.  This is where Kata Marketing comes in. I have 20 years’ experience in the world of small business and non-profits, with ten years as a Development Director of a non-profit, and eight as a marathon race director.  From website design and advanced search engine optimization, to creating fundraising opportunities you may not have thought of, Kata Marketing will help your business grow and be found.

And… that’s my kid up on the mountain. His participation in Judo inspired the name Kata Marketing- Kata is a martial arts term which perfectly sums up my mission: Kata is the combination of experience and strategy, and it guides how I support small businesses to compete against the big guys.

From website design and advanced search engine optimization, to creating fundraising opportunities you may not have thought of, Kata Marketing will help your business grow and be found.
